All campuses of the Anneliese Schools feature sustainable coops for the comfort and care of our feathered friends. At our Aliso campus, the pre-school students share their play yard with a family of friendly chickens. At our Manzanita campus, where the coop is in the heart of the school, our chickens are prized for their abundant production of delicious eggs. At our Willowbrook campus, the aviary is a spectacular showcase of the variety of birds in our Animal Care Program. All of our feathered friends, from our peacocks, parrots, chickens and doves, to the recent, highly anticipated addition of Jasper, our majestic, baby boy swan, provide our students, families, and teachers with inspiration, appreciation, and connection to ourselves, each other, and our environment.
Included in the annual care costs for our Feathered Friends is specialized veterinary care, grooming, and feeding, as well as the daily maintenance of the coops and protective netting for our aviary. The development of our Animal Care Program also includes plans for an interactive, outdoor classroom, centered around our Feathered Friends.
The Anneliese Schools welcomed Moon and Miller, our rescued donkeys, in the beginning of the school year. They join our rescued alpacas, Reba, Amaretta, and Emma, up on the hillside of the majestic Laguna Canyon. Together, with their protective eyes, our donkeys and alpacas watch over our Willowbrook campus and alert us of the presence of coyotes or any other unwelcomed visitors. Above all, donkeys and alpacas embody the healing energy of nature. Anyone who shares time with them walks away transformed by their quiet charm, natural curiosity, and kind attention to respectful and compassionate visitors.
Included in the annual care costs, for Moon, Miller, Reba, Amaretta, and Emma, is their feed, veterinary care, and farrier services. Alpaca Shearing, which includes dental checks and nail trims, is also a required part of their annual care costs. Additionally, landcape improvements are needed for their hillside home. The project proposes restoring the sand and decomposed granite, upgrading drainage for erosion control, constructing additional shade protection, in addition to replacing their wood shavings, pellet absorption material, rubber troughs and mats.
Our beloved minis, Willow, Balthazar, and Katy, are a heart warming welcome to our Willowbrook campus. Visited by many and adored by all, they teach us sacred lessons of being in touch and in tune with nature, adapting to change, learning to live in harmony with the Earth, each other, and all beings. Recently, our ponies were specially trained, as part of our Animal Care Program, to allow students to participate in their customized care. But, at the end of the day, it is our staff and local veterinarians that provide the proper care for their overall health and well being.
Included in the annual care costs, for Willow, Balthazar, and Katy, is their feed, veterinary care, and farrier services. Repairs to their pens, tack and feed room, and hay storage, as well as the need for additional sun and wind shelters and teaching equipment.
